Experiencing the World Through A Different Lens...

Ian came to visit with me this week on Friday. He was tired...he was so tired, so was I. When Scott brought him to me he laughed and told me the two "new" things that they have been learning about Ian.

The first thing is that he is busy and nosey. If ANYTHING is going on, he wants to be a part of it....doesn't want to miss it and wants to be in the middle of it. Alas, he doesn't get as much sleep as he needs to maintain his amazingly fantastic disposition. Secondly, when he is tired he in fact "throws fits." He has begun to make a very demanding shrill screech as his little hands and legs jet out stiffly and his face turns purple while he screams. His Mom says this only seems to happen when he is over-tired.

As I reflected upon this I began to look at my own life. Busy, packed and hectic 24/7. Never "missing anything," "Getting it all done." Fatigue and weariness are always just a moment away. Long work days turn too often into sleepless nights while I design websites in my head as I watch the both the ceiling and the clock which seems to move very slowly.

Within the privacy of my own heart I quietly began to recall with embarrassment how many times just in the last few weeks I have been abrupt or irritable. It seems all too coincidental how those "bad days" seem to line up with the "long days!"

God made us to be a people who need. We need rest, proper nourishment, and Him to function in a way that calls us to a disposition of the joy that reflects Him.

With my new revelation, Ian and I spent the whole day dozing and napping. We turned EVERYTHING off and pulled the blinds. We read a Bible story (Jesus running off away from his Mom when he was 12) and then we sang a few songs and drifted into sleep. We did this all day...waking up for meals and to stretch and giggle and then back to sleep. We did not take out my computer OR his pop up rattles and noisemakers.

We rested well in the hand of our God without our toys. It was a good day.
