Proverbs 8:17

He was found alone, without his Mom just hours old when he ran out in front of a car in a small town Texas town.

The initial thought was that he was a lost baby goat. It was only upon further inspection that Powder was found to be a very rare and special creation by our Almighty. A tiny baby albino whitetail deer.

The statistics for this encounter are staggering. These precious little pink-eyed wonders are seen once in a million sightings.

As I read through the warm account of Powder's rescue with his "Family" I continued to be struck with one significant thought....they almost erroneously dismissed him as being an ordinary every day creature.

They almost missed it.....they almost missed the gift....the gift of something unexpected and special...a divine appointment......a warm and personal touch touch from a loving Abba.

We try to replicate this with our loved ones in our human lives. We send flowers for no reason, we tuck a note in a lunchbox or a suitcase of a cherished one...just a special way to say "I love you," "You matter," " I took the time," " I wanted you to know that you are being thought of."

We scold our children for ripping open envelopes to count money without taking the time to read and cherish the sentiments of the cards...but in some elementary way do we in essence live our lives that way...........missing HIS daily unexpected cherished sentiments tearing through the moments to get to our agenda?

How many gifts do I miss each day? An ignored sunrise or sunset that has been buried amongst the angst of unplanned traffic......A Christmas Cactus that blooms in July...a sincere and authentic smile.....a hymn that pops into my head for no reason that wells up in my chest and offers comfort in a dark situation.................

I serve a God who tucks little private blessings throughout my day. I have found
Powder's story to be a very good reminder of that anticipation I felt as a brand new Christian.

I pray for all of us that we all take the time to appreciate and share our "Powder Experiences" as the business of the holidays begins to vie for our every spare moment.
